Xwelítem Siyáya is back this fall.

Rooted in Stó:lō Téméxw, Foundations is a 45-hour, non-credit learning journey invites participants to deepen their understanding of Indigenous–settler relations, responsibilities, and reconciliation through place-based learning, dialogue, reflection, and experience.

The first season begins this October with 17 learning hours across four evening Module sessions and one full-day Workshop.

Legacy of a Lynching — Creating A Resting Heart: Documentary Screening and Conversation

Join UFV’s Peace and Reconciliation Centre, Find You in the Valley, and the City of Abbotsford’s Culture City Program Series for the public debut screening of A Resting Heart, a documentary exploring the ongoing legacies of the 1884 lynching of Louie Sam, a 15-year-old Stó:lō boy.

The film follows John Emmery, a descendant of one of the men responsible for Louie Sam’s murder, as he works to deliver a personal apology to Louie Sam and the Semá:th community. Grounded in the voices and knowledge of Semá:th First Nation and Stó:lō community members, the film invites reflection on accountability, reconciliation, and the difficult work of confronting histories of violence, racism, and colonial injustice.

The screening will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with Grand Chief Clarence “Kat” Pennier, Chief Dalton Silver, Dr. Keith Thor Carlson, John Emmery, and Desiré Kokuvi Amouzou.
