UFV Mental Health Awareness Club - MHAC The Mental Health Awareness Club (MHAC) of the University of the Fraser Valley strives to diminish the stigma surrounding mental illnesses.

The Mental Health Awareness Club (MHAC) of the University of the Fraser Valley strives to diminish the stigma surrounding mental illnesses by providing a friendly environment where discussions regarding these issues are openly available along with an ample of information and sessions used to educate the public on issues not normally spoken upon. Mental health issues are often not discussed due to

the difficulties that society and individuals have coping with it. Those who are suffering feel as if they cannot speak about what they have and those who want to help do not know how they do that. That is where we come in on this campus. We intend to raise awareness about mental health through events where individuals may willingly ask questions and discuss anything related to this subject. There will also be information sessions and other events relating to and raising awareness for mental health. Our meetings will be held in a classroom on campus sometimes throughout the school year, where a wide variety of events will be tried out. Notice will be given on campus when a meeting is planned. One in five Canadians experience mental health problems and out of those, only one in three actually looks for help. This is believed to be due to the lack of education about mental health and also the shame aspect of it. Our goal is to provide this education and de-stigmatize something that is far more prevalent than people may think.
