Facilitated by Claire Hay, Lorna Andrews, and Leanne A. Joe from the Teaching and Learning Centre, the Community of Practice: Holistic Assessment will provide a space for dialogue on assessment practices that weave together Indigenous and western perspectives. We will provide space to consider how these principles apply to our teaching practice.

This CoP is an ongoing conversation that takes place over the year. You are welcome to attend all sessions or join us when your schedule allows.

UFV employees and students are invited to Truth Before Reconciliation: How to Identify and Confront Residential School Denialism, a virtual talk by Dr. Sean Carleton. Dr. Carleton is a settler historian and associate professor in the Departments of History and Indigenous Studies at the University of Manitoba. He is the author of Lessons in Legitimacy: Colonialism, Capitalism, and the Rise of State Schooling in British Columbia.

When: Thursday, March 5 from 12 - 1:30 PM, online
Registration: forms.office.com/r/zJVdMQeEHx
Registration closes at noon on March 4. The event link will be shared the afternoon before the event.

We invite you to attend an upcoming talk on residential school denialism and its growing impact on our communities.

This conversation is not only about historical understanding, but about addressing the ongoing harm caused by denialist narratives that disrupt learning spaces, undermine Indigenous truth-telling, and place additional pressure on Indigenous faculty, students, and staff. At a time when misinformation and organized denial continue to circulate in public and academic spheres, it is crucial that we engage critically and collectively. This event is an opportunity to deepen our understanding, strengthen our response to denialism, and reaffirm our commitment to truth, accountability, and social justice beyond a single gathering.

This event is hosted by the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee of the Faculty of Education. Community, and Human Development. For questions, please contact [email protected].

ECEBC had the pleasure of visiting the University of Fraser Valley recently, where we met with students currently taking ECE courses through the Dual Credit program. After a beautiful opening circle where students spoke about their relationship to land and sang the Forest Song, we shared about the province-wide work of ECEBC, including our student bursaries, the Ambassador Program, and our Journal, The Early Childhood Educator. This led to a powerful discussion around the vital role of fully qualified Early Childhood Educators in communities and we learned about the many diverse paths students had taken to get to this point in their Early Years journey. We left inspired by the studentsโ€™ passion for the field and, as always, grateful for instructors who play such a crucial role in guiding and nurturing our future educators. It was an honour to spend time together with you on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the St?:lo Coast Salish peoples, in particular the Tsโ€™elxw?yeqw Tribe.
