105 years of experience shared in class.

Margot Todder was born in 1921 Frankfurt Germany. 105 years later, she is visiting Sebastian Huebel's History 318 course on Modern Germany, to share her experiences of growing up in pre-war N**i Germany.

These make up much of her earliest childhood and teenage memories. She left Germany in 1938 for the UK, and eventually Canada.

A big thank you to Margot, for sharing her experiences and knowledge with students. These are invaluable educational experience.

Leilani Farha is the author of "Housing Inc.: A Global Takeover and Our Fight for Home. The 2026 Massey Lecture breaks down Leilani’s explorations of what home means across the globe.

Leilani Farha is the Global Director of The Shift, an international human rights organization focused on housing, finance, and climate. She previously served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing and is recognized globally as a leading expert on housing and human rights. A lawyer, advocate, and speaker, she has visited hundreds of people across six continents in a wide range of living conditions from homeless encampments to informal settlements to private homes. She is based in Ottawa, Canada.

Leilani Farha will also be coming to UFV to discuss “Is housing a human right?”. The UFV event is free to attend on October 21 at 12 pm on the Abbotsford campus, B101.

"Public art is a public endeavour."

Instructor and artist Chris Friesen's Public Art VA 392 students completed four monumental pieces for the of Mission over the summer.

To do so, students had to consult with not only the city of Mission, but residents. After numerous presentations and a successful summer market showcase, the students completed the pieces and set them up on 2nd avenue in Mission.

Is housing a human right?

The 2026 CBC Massey Lecturer, Leilani Farha is coming to University of the Fraser Valley - UFV this month.

She will be speaking alongside 3 UFV alumni on the topic of housing in the Fraser Valley.

Join us Wednesday, October 21 at 12 pm on the Abbotsford Campus, B101.

“I’ve worked with a lot of non-profits, advocating to the policy makers to make changes. But seeing how it works on the other side, it’s eye-opening to witness how the different systems, intersecting departments, and people in government get policy across the finish line. It was very informative and humbling to experience it from this perspective.”

Rebekah Stokes (BGDS '26) worked with the City of Abbotsford on its recent Climate Resilience Plan as a Co-op student with the UFV Centre for Experiential and Career Education . The experience gave her a strong foundation for her future in sustainability.

“We can dream and do whatever we want. We’re worthy of having a voice.”

Marcella Sunshine accepted a Governor General's Meritorious Service medal in June . This recognizes her work in supporting youth, particularly Indigenous youth through many challenges.

She helped develop Valley Youth Peers for Overdose Response (VYPOR) and Visionary Youth Peers for Equity and Revitalization (VYPER). She also played a role in revitalizing the Mission Powwow.

Her work also helps Indigenous youth reconnect with their culture.

1. Stumped in your course work? UFV offers free Supported Learning Groups on campus in a variety of subjects. Learn more: ufv.ca/slg

2. Access free tutoring through the UFV Academic Success Centre to get personalized support. Learn more: ufv.ca/academic-success-centre/

3. If you need mental health support or are navigating challenges, UFV also provides free counselling services to students on campus. Counselling Learn more: ufv.ca/counselling/
