To our graduating AFP students — congratulations. 🎓🖤

Over the past four years, you’ve challenged yourselves, supported one another, and stepped into spaces that demand empathy, resilience, and courage. From classrooms to practicums, you’ve left your mark on this program in ways that won’t be forgotten.

We can’t wait to see where you go next. Once AFP, always AFP. 💙🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻

On April 19, 2020, the StFX Forensic Psychology community lost a deeply valued alumna, mentor, and friend, Alanna Jenkins—one of the 22 lives taken in the Nova Scotia mass casualty.

Alanna’s legacy lives on through her unwavering commitment to students, her leadership within Correctional Service Canada, and her dedication to advancing mental health in corrections.

Today, on the 6th anniversary, we honour her by recognizing the recipients of the Alanna Jenkins Legacy Award—students who embody her generosity, passion, and commitment to making a difference. This year, we are honoured to share that we had 6 students recipients: 3rd year AFP students Lucy Steffler-Minty & Maria Young, and 2nd year AFP students Carley Simpson, Emma McInnis, M-E Hickey & Ryann O’Neill.

We remember Alanna. Always. 🖤

BR: Lucy Steffler-Minty, Ryann O’Neill, Emma McInnis, Carley Simpson, & Maria Young
FR: Jake Grady (2025 recipient), Alannah Ingles (2023 recipient), Lily Turnbull (2022 recipient) & Drew MacPherson (2021 recipient)

TOMORROW is Psychology Research Day at StFX! 34 Senior Honours students in Psychology/AFP will be sharing the results of their thesis research and all are welcome to attend!

An undergraduate psychology thesis is a senior-year capstone research project where students conduct original, faculty-supervised research and present it as an APA-style paper. It involves designing a study, collecting data, and analyzing findings, typically spanning two semesters. It acts as a key component of Honours programs.

If you’ve been considering or planning on doing an honours degree, tomorrow will be a glimpse into what your future could look like! We hope to see you there!

Are you interested in being a medical first responder at StFX? Would you like to make a meaningful impact in the community while earning practicum hours?

Join the StFX Medical Response Team and play an important role in supporting the campus and local community. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working in meaningful, high-pressure situations.

Your involvement can count toward practicum hours and provides the opportunity to develop valuable skills and earn recognized qualifications in emergency response, patient care, and mental health first aid. The commitment includes 40 hours (1 week) of MFR training prior to the start of the school year, followed by a minimum of 60 volunteer hours throughout the year. This is a great way to build confidence, strengthen your resume, and be part of a team that truly makes a difference.

Applications are open until Friday, March 27th. Link to apply is in our bio!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to Mykola Rubashewsky (x2023bgz) or contact the team ([email protected]).
