Emily Meadley and Liz Rose, Academic Program Technologists in the Pharmacy Technician program at Georgian College, are the recipients of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) Award of Excellence in Innovation & Competency Assessment. This prestigious award recognizes their outstanding innovation and excellence in competency assessment through the development and implementation of the Live Lab Community Pharmacy Simulation. Designed to provide students with an authentic practice environment, the simulation enables learners to demonstrate and integrate the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours outlined in the Canadian Pharmacy Technician Professional Competencies at Entry to Practice. Through thoughtful design, collaboration, and a commitment to experiential learning, Emily and Liz created a realistic assessment experience that challenges students to apply critical thinking, communication, professionalism, and patient-centred care in complex pharmacy practice scenarios. In recognition of their achievement, the award includes a monetary prize as well as travel expenses and conference registration fees to attend the annual Canadian Pharmacy Technician Educators Association (CPTEA) Conference. Emily and Liz’s work serves as an outstanding example of the creativity, leadership, and commitment to quality that this national award seeks to recognize and celebrate.
