Occupation-specific Language Training (OSLT) is a free program which teaches language and communication skills specific to certain sectors and occupations. OSLT is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Georgian College is offering two programs beginning in September. One is for people with experience in technology; the second is for those with experience in business. OSLT is intended

for persons who are internationally trained or have previous work experience in their field but are experiencing communication barriers while trying to find work in Canada. Students practise dialogue and communication tasks commonly performed in their field to learn the specific language and communication skills necessary to build a successful career in their field. Participants have frequently shared a sense of increased confidence in spoken English and knowledge of workplace culture which has helped them to be successful in interviews and networking. They can also demonstrate that they have completed communication training in Canada. To be eligible for the program, a student must be a permanent resident or protected person and have English skills at an intermediate level Students must also have training or experience in specific occupations or industries.
