SFU Office for Aboriginal Peoples

SFU Office for Aboriginal Peoples The Office for Aboriginal Peoples (OAP) was established in 2009 and its first Director, William G. Lindsay, began his tenure in January 2010.

The mandate of the OAP is to take the lead on implementing the Aboriginal Strategic Plan at SFU. Welcome to the Office for Aboriginal Peoples at Simon Fraser University! We hope that our office Facebook will make it easy for you to access the various Aboriginal people, services, and programs available at our great university. Stay tuned for more information regarding programs and events. The manda

te of the OAP is to take the lead on implementing the Aboriginal Strategic Plan at Simon Fraser University. The Aboriginal Strategic Plan is a comprehensive document covering all things “Aboriginal” at SFU. This plan was initiated by a First Nations University-Wide Coordinating Committee which was chaired by Dr. Lisa Sterling, who also served as special advisor to the Vice-President, Academic. The Aboriginal Strategic Plan was passed by university senate in 2007. Although the Office for Aboriginal Peoples was yet to be established, there were long established, new, and ongoing Aboriginal initiatives, services, and programs in place all over the university. The mandate of the OAP is to support these initiatives and to break ground on new ones. Please come by the OAP for a visit if you would like to discuss any of the above. We are located in AQ 3140 at SFU's Burnaby campus, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby.

Did you know that in 2007 the SFU Senate passed the original five year First Nations University-Wide Strategic Plan and that it is revised and updated every 5 years?

Did you know they use this as a vision to articulate critical first step towards establishing the future for Aboriginal peoples at Simon Fraser University and that it creates a road map for accomplishing that vision?

Now are you asking yourself who decided this vision, how do they decide how to revise it and who actually evaluates its success?
