Swipe through to revisit a full day of sustainability energy research, ideas and connections 🌱

Earlier this month, the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering hosted SEEGRAD 2026, bringing together students, faculty, industry professionals and the broader SFU community for a day of presentations, idea exchange and discussions.

Throughout the day, SEE graduate students presented research addressing real-world sustainability challenges, from AI-supported vehicle and emission analysis and land use classification using supervised and unsupervised learning to solutions focused on reducing water loss and advancing carbon capture.

The day also featured an industry panel on the energy transition in British Columbia, offering participants insights into the challenges, opportunities and future directions shaping sustainable development.

A big thank-you to our presenters, panelists, attendees and everyone who helped make SEEGRAD 2026 possible! We are already looking forward to next year’s conference!⚡

What does a PB&J sandwich have to do with computer science? 🍞🧑‍💻

For Shayna, this in-class exercise became one of her most memorable lessons in writing precise code for an algorithm. From her involvement as a TechConnect mentor and FAS diversity ambassador to her co-op experience in the tech industry, Shayna’s time at FAS helped shape how she communicates, collaborates and shows up as a Full Stack Developer today.

💡🔧Prototypes in motion …

Earlier this month, our fourth-year engineering science students showcased their initial Capstone prototype at the ENSC 405W Poster Session.

From tracking walking patterns for rehabilitation support and analyzing sports techniques to developing solutions designed to improve everyday accessibility, students presented smart and innovative ideas with a strong focus on user experience.

We’re excited to see how these projects continue to grow in phase two✨
