🏆 Two major GNAC honours. One incredible freshman season.

Simon Fraser’s Raiya Matonovich has been named both the GNAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Year and GNAC Freshman of the Year after a historic debut outdoor season in the red and white. 🔥

Matonovich capped off her freshman campaign with a bronze medal in the 1500m at the NCAA Championships, crossing the line in 4:20.15 to earn her first individual All-American trophy.

At the GNAC Championships, she dominated the middle-distance events, capturing gold in both the 1500m (4:30.16) and 800m with a personal-best 2:06.38 performance. Her season-best 1500m time of 4:19.28 now ranks third-fastest in GNAC history, while her 800m PR sits 10th all-time in the conference.

Matonovich becomes just the third woman in GNAC history to win both Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season, and the second SFU woman ever to earn the conference’s top freshman honour.

The future is bright. 🌟
