Hey folks! My name is Scott and I am re-running for the roll of VP Academic this year! It is very important to ensure that the students of Craigie Hall know and can trust that they are on the right academic track and that is what I hope to do! (As well as get opportunity to get to know all of you better!)

When it comes to music, it can be challenging and intimidating to take the first steps in building a professional career and networking. It is my goal this year to help assist those who may want to get more experience in both a performance and also academic setting. With in the past year, there have been several changes announced to the BMus and BA degrees and it is my goal to help the students of Craigie Hall stay on track with their requirements, not just with knowing what classes to take, but also assisting with the classes themselves via connecting students for tutoring and/or advising. With much change and uncertainty, I want to help make the community feel for grounded and secure to ensure their transition from post-secondary into the music scene is as seemless as possible!

Music continues to grow within all of us and in order to share it with others, it is best to fully understand all of its inner-workings and history. With the proper academic security and performance experience, I believe that everyone is capabale of being an influential part of the music scene!

I would like to be the VP of Finance, as I believe that I have proficient skill when it comes to handling money.

In my opinion, having a representative undergraduate society is important to fostering a community. Musicians, regardless of instrument or stream, rely on collaboration with others. An undergraduate society like this provides opportunities for those looking for a connection, both emotional and professional.

I believe my job as a VP is to listen to the concerns of the students as they come. Things are constantly changing and it's important to address both long-standing, and new concerns of the current student body. As a new member, I also believe that I must immerse myself in my role in order to have a clear personal outlook on what needs to be improved in our program.

I want to see the MUS continue on the path it has been. I believe the current, and prior administrations have done a fantastic job of creating, and supporting a community within the music program. I hope to maintain, and improve what is already in place. I hope to support the team in achieving their ideas, and maintaining their current momentum.

Hi! My name is Sushmita Babladi, and I am running for the marketing and communications position in the music undergraduate society.

My interest in this position comes from how important it is for music to be shared between people in order to build strong connections and find inspiration among others in this vibrant and diverse program. In a world where it is common for music students to feel as if there aren’t many opportunities presented to us, my goal for marketing and communications is to always let students know that they have the ability to change that.

It is so important for the world to know how music takes up so much of our daily lives, and I want to build a welcoming and encouraging environment through the promotion of students' works, and have them be excited to showcase their dedication and passion for their music. Students in this program should know that they have a voice, and understand that each of them are important figures among our program. I truly love being able to promote the talent and hard work of other students, and it brings me joy to see them build their confidence and passion for music.

I believe having a representative executive team in this program is so incredibly important for music students in terms of navigating their degree path and knowing where they can find help whenever they need it. It is a great way for them to build and maintain connections with so many people in their program, as well as having confidence in doing what they love, whether that be performance, composition or music education.

By running for mar/comm, I want to shape a healthy culture throughout this program by letting students know that they always have a way to build their knowledge and confidence by presenting students with opportunities that don’t just lie within the university, but also allow them to showcase their talents across many other environments, and overall be a voice that they can rely on.

Hi, my name is Anna Theoret, and I’m running for the role of VP of Marketing and Communications.
My goal is to continue building a more connected and supportive community within our school. I want every student to feel safe, welcomed, and valued.

As students, we’re all busy, and it can be easy to miss out on events. I plan to improve communication by sharing announcements directly in classrooms and distributin flyers on the day of events to make sure no one misses out.
I also want your voices to be heard. By creating more polls and opportunities for feedback, I hope to better understand what kind of events you want to see and help bring those ideas to life. I also want to hear your concerns and help bring light and attention to things our community feels we need to address whenever possible.

Another initiative I’m passionate about is starting a mentorship program that connects upper-year students with first-years. This would help new students feel supported, included, and more connected to our community from the start.

Finally, I’d love to introduce more kindness-focused initiatives through SCPA activities, like writing encouraging notes to place on lockers or in practice rooms, to spread positivity throughout our school.

Together, we can create a community where everyone feels like they belong. My hope is to be an embodiment of positivity and encouragement, and hope to make students feel seen.

I would like to be re-elected as VP External to continue connecting students to the community (such as providing undergraduate music students with real-life work opportunities).

With being VP External for the past 2 years, I have become familiar with expectations of what it takes to successfully complete tasks in that role. Having a representative society is vital to the undergraduate music program as it fosters connections within and around the community, which is crucial for each person's career and personal growth going forward. Organizing a fundraiser concert this year for the Music Undergraduate Society taught me that it was not just about showcasing the hardwork and wonderful talent of the students in our program, but it was also a celebration of community through the art form.

Whether it be classical, jazz, or pop, music transcends the barriers that words cannot and I want to continue organizing annual concerts with a wonderful team at the Music Undergraduate Society to bring together students, alumni, and members of the community around the University of Calgary. In addition to organizing concerts presented by the Music Undergraduate Society, I want to further connect students to the community through workshops and mentorships with professional musicians around Calgary. Last year, I had the wonderful opportunity to bring in Juno-nominated percussionist Luis Tovar for a workshop and it was amazing to see the creative collaborations and the exchanging of ideas between Tovar and the students. I want to create more frequent and diverse workshop opportunities for the music students at the University of Calgary.

Community is key to helping the music program grow and thrive, and I would love to help be a catalyst for that success.

Hi there, my name is Lewis. You may know me as the only bassoonist in the music division, or as the Music Undergraduate Society's First-Year Relations Executive. I am running for President of the MUS for the upcoming academic year, a position in which I would be a great fit as I value connection, open communication, and creating a welcoming environment for students. The MUS is an important organization, as it functions primarily as a representive of music students, prioritizing our needs and communicating them to the division, faculty, and the SCPA.

As MUS President, my main goals would be to increase organization and communication within the club, grow membership numbers, and create more opportunities for members. One opportunity I would like to bring back and expand on is our fundraiser event. I would like to propose a fundraiser event during fall term, again with volunteer performers; in the winter term, however, a more formal fundraiser concert or event may be organized, with compensation for performers, and a way to demonstrate our talented study body.

The culture within the MUS, one of belonging and community, is something I see myself promoting through more engaging events and marketing strategies. I would like to see our website and social media expanded to bring in more viewership and engagement, as well as welcoming things like blog posts and promotion of students' personal work and projects into our website, created by students. Hosting workshops and events based around injury prevention, mental and physical health, and healthy career strategies is another idea I would love to implement this upcoming year; health and wellness is often ignored in the classical music industry, even as students, and I believe as a representative of music students, it is the job of the MUS to advocate for and create ways to discuss these issues.

As a music student at the University of Calgary, you deserve to feel welcomed and supported by the people around you, especially in such a close-knit division. That is why I value the MUS and its work so strongly, and I want to help to develop its potential as a tool for advocacy, opportunity, and connection.
