The Co-op team thanks Alyssa for her amazing contributions and wishes her all the best – she will be missed!

Hi, my name is Alyssa! I'm a Communication and Media Studies student and have been working at the Faculty of Arts Co-op Office as a Communication Assistant Peer Helper for the last 7 months.

Through this role, I was able to gain experience with social media and work collaboratively with the Co-op team and Peer Helper cohorts. Under the mentorship of Amanda and Tianni, I have learned valuable skills in content creation, media scheduling and email marketing. Specifically, my tasks included creating graphics and captions, posting on the Arts Co-op’s socials twice every week and uploading and editing the newsletter onto the Marketo platform. These skills helped build my resume as I am more confident applying for jobs in my field due to my Peer Helper experience.

I highly recommend the Peer Helper program to students who are looking to step into the job industry by gaining real work experience and start their career journey!

The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is currently hiring an Engineering Career Centre Internship Student for an 8-month work term. The Engineering Career Centre provides an introduction for students to their engineering career, through hands-on experience or interactive workshops and events that assist students in preparing for graduation.
Some duties in this role include responding to internal and external inquiries, assisting with event planning and Communication/marketing to event participants and industry partners.

Lastly, meet Michela Sangregorio! Michela is a fourth year Political Science student and is currently working as an Operations Intern at Neo Financial. Her roles and responsibilities include answering phone calls, responding to emails, and transmitting information to different departments. Having the opportunity to utilize these skills in a professional environment has not only eased her stress surrounding post-graduation, but it has also greatly increased her confidence.

Meet Simardeep Bharaj! Simardeep is a third year Communications and Media Studies student and is currently working for the Student Success Centre at the University as an intern. She also worked at Hull Family Services which is a not-for-profit organization that helps kids and children at risk. Her advice to future Co-op students is to not be afraid to apply for jobs just because you don't know how to do something. The person interviewing you will know that you have little experience and will be willing to teach you what you need!
