When we talk about grief, we often focus on the emotional pain—but loss has a real, tangible effect on your entire body.
Grief is a whole-body experience. It can be disorienting and physically exhausting. If you have been feeling this way, please know you are not imagining it and you are not alone. Loss affects us cognitively, emotionally, and physically.
Here is a look at just a few of the ways grief can affect your body and mind:
🧠 Cognitively: You might experience brain fog and memory issues, making even simple tasks feel difficult.
❤️ Emotionally & Systemically: It can lead to increased stress and profound sorrow, placing a strain on your nervous system.
🫁 Physically (Lungs): It can manifest as shortness of breath and shallow breathing, which directly contributes to feelings of fatigue.
💪 Physically (Muscles): Grief can create deep muscle tension and aches.
If you are experiencing any of these physical, emotional, or cognitive impacts, please know that your experience is valid. Grief is complex, demanding, and requires gentle self-compassion. Please remember to give yourself grace during this process.
