Congratulations to Dr. Frank Stahnisch, PhD, professor in the Department of History, on receiving the 2026 Outstanding (Non-Biography) Book Award in the History of Neuroscience from the International Society for the History of the Neurosciences.

The award recognizes his book, Great Minds in Despair: The Forced Migration of German-Speaking Neuroscientists to North America, 1933 to 1989.

The book traces the forced migration of German-speaking neuroscientists to North America, examining how displacement and new scientific environments shaped their careers and the development of neuroscience.

Latina women living in Calgary explore migration, identity, community-building and home through Sensory Cartographies of Belonging: Remembering, Experiencing, and Imagining Our Lives as Latina Immigrants.

Led by Dr. Laura Montes de Oca, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Sociology, and Verónica Briseño Castrejón, a PhD student in environmental design in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, in collaboration with Centro Latino, the exhibition presents a collective artwork created during a three-day collaborative workshop.

Grand opening: Sept. 5, 1 p.m.
Exhibition: Sept. 6–10, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Meet alumnus Dr. Peter Jackson, one of UCalgary’s new Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs. His research will inform Canada's national security policy, including Arctic security.
