Dr. Bryan Kolb, BA’68, MA’70, and Dr. Ian Whishaw, BA’65, MA’68, earned master's degrees in psychology at the University of Calgary, where they began a research partnership that has spanned more than five decades. Together, they helped establish behavioural neuroscience as a field through pioneering research, influential textbooks and discoveries in brain plasticity, movement and behaviour. Their contributions continue to shape neuroscience research and education worldwide.

Parents who checked their phones or smart watches during playtime are nearly six times more likely to miss their children's signals, according to new research.

In an article for The Conversation, Dr. Gizem Keskin, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow, and Dr. Sheri Madigan, PhD, a professor and Canada Research Chair in Determinants of Child Development, both in UCalgary's Department of Psychology, explore “technoference” and how everyday digital interruptions can affect parent-child connections and early language development.

A study finds that in the moments when parents checked their phones or smart watches they were almost six times more likely to miss their children’s signals.

Join Dr. Katherine Lawless (UCalgary Arts) as they introduce Soil Memory Atlas, a transdisciplinary research methodology and research-creation practice for reading the social and material histories of place. Blending soil data, cultural archives, and living knowledge, the Atlas traces how human-environment relations accumulate, persist, and transform across time and translates those traces into interactive digital forms and gallery exhibitions.

Congratulations to Canadian poet, essayist and classical scholar Anne Carson on winning the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. Carson held a sessional appointment in UCalgary's former Department of Classics during the 1979–80 academic year. Her acclaimed work has earned international recognition, including Guggenheim and MacArthur fellowships and appointment to the Order of Canada.
