In a newly published open access article in Advances in Archaeological Practice, Dr. Lindsay Amundsen-Meyer (UCalgary), Dr. Ken Holyoke (ULethbridge) and Dr. Matt Munro (Stantec/UCalgary) examine the Canadian CRM industry to determine the size of the industry and available labour pool and highlight the challenges faced within the industry that must be addressed for CRM in Canada to attract and retain professional archaeologists.

A big congrats to the University of Calgary Public Archaeology Program team led by Dr. Lindsay Amundsen-Meyer who received a Heritage Calgary Award in the Cultural Landscapes category last night at the Heritage Calgary Awards gala. The 2024 program was hosted by Calgary Parks and Open Spaces in Nose Hill Park, with partial funding from the Archaeological Survey of Alberta. Dr. Lindsay Amundsen-Meyer and our ARKY 306 field school were included in a small way in an episode of the Aboriginal People's Television Network show Little Big Community focused on the Siksika Nation, which filmed in 2023. The episode (now streaming on APTN Lumi!) tells the stories of two Siksika change-makers, including our colleague Dr. Vivian Ayoungman. It is truly an honor to be part of Vivian's story - she is an incredible person and an advocate for her community!

The Spring 2025 school will take place at several archaeological sites within the City of Calgary’s Edworthy Park (pending all necessary permissions). Students will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of archaeological excavation and survey as they test and excavate a Precontact campsite, document ongoing erosion at the historic site of Brickburn, and participate in archaeology survey to create an inventory of sites present within the park.
