This week’s featured UAS student is Myles Peterson, a first year Engineering student. Myles recently moved here from Alberta, where he was a product designer and inventor.
“I have decided to pursue a degree in Engineering, given how much I’ve loved doing design in the past. Selkirk College is the perfect fit, as I grew up in Castlegar, and the smaller environment and classes seemed like the right choice for a highly technical program.”
Myles has built products and tools across multiple sectors, including Terra-MDF, which earned him and his team a spot in the finals at a science competition at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). He also recently developed a custom point-of-sale system for an ice cream shop he helped bring to life.
“I’ve started more projects than I’ve finished,” says Myles. “Such is the nature of building.”
After Selkirk, Myles plans to focus on mechanical or chemical engineering, ideally at UCalgary, USask, or UBC. He is most interested in industries where efficiencies can be gained through new materials, designs, or automation, and where the end product can affect people’s every day lives.
