We are happy to announce our fourth keynote speaker for Turning the Tide 2025, Vandana Singh! Vandana Singh is a professor of Physics and Environment at Framingham State University in Massachusetts. For the last fifteen years she has been working on a transdisciplinary, justice-centered pedagogy of climate change, which is the subject of her 2024 book, Teaching Climate Change: Science, Stories, Justice.

William N. Kostka is a leading Pacific conservationist with over 25 years of experience in environmental sustainability and strategic leadership. He has held senior roles at the Conservation Society of Pohnpei, the Micronesia Conservation Trust, and the Pacific Community, and is co-founder of the Micronesians in Island Conservation and the Pacific Islands Managed and Protected Areas Community. Excitement for Turning the Tide 2025 is ramping up!

We recently had the pleasure of interviewing Marlene Chapman, a graduate from the Master of Arts in Island Studies program at UPEI, who will present at the upcoming “Turning the Tide” conference in June. Marlene's research focuses on adaptive capacity in the face of climate change, exploring how fishermen work together to overcome challenges. She’ll delve into the crucial role of social capital in fostering resilience within island communities. Join us in supporting her journey as she shares invaluable insights on navigating climate change through collaboration and community strength.

We are happy to announce our second keynote speaker for Turning the Tide 2025, Dr. Beate Ratter!

Beate Ratter is a geographer by heart and by training. She dedicates her scientific work to understanding and improving human-nature interactions in a transdisciplinary way. She was lead author for the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) and was awarded a UNESCO Chair for “Societal Climate Change Research and Resilience” in 2024.
