The first of the year, Volemdam. I have been watching passenger vessels since I was in high school when I was able to see the ships leaving for Australia and Canada and of course I was told to pay attention unless I was planning to be a sailor. Actually, I wanted to be a radio operator that didn’t happen, but I’m a Ham radio operator now. I eventually left from the same port and sailed to Canada.

A study using mindfulness meditation showed changes over time in neural responses to pain and fear. The researchers found that changes in the hippocampus after mindfulness training were associated with enhanced ability to recall a safety memory, and thus respond in a more adaptive way.
