𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱.

Some projects are about more than the final result. They are also about the teamwork, coordination, and adaptability required to get there.

The new trailer yard paving project at MPP was a fast-moving initiative that required careful coordination across teams while daily operations continued.

For those who use the yard every day, the impact is already clear.

Finding Home: Liesl Castles’ Journey to Canadian Citizenship.

Six years ago, Liesl Castles and her family made a life-changing decision. Leaving South Africa behind, they came to Canada searching for something many families hope for — opportunity, stability, and a better future for their child.

Today, after years of hard work, uncertainty, adaptation, and perseverance, Liesl can finally say those words with pride:

“I am a Canadian citizen.”

For Liesl, this milestone represents far more than paperwork or legal status. It marks the end of what she describes as “a long and bumpy road,” and the beginning of a new chapter built on security, belonging, and possibility.

One of the things she appreciates most about life in Canada is something many people may take for granted: safety.

“I love that we can live out in the country with no fences around the property or burglar bars on the windows,” she explains. “Safety was one of the biggest deciding factors for us coming to Canada.”

That sense of peace and stability became even more meaningful while navigating the realities of immigration — work permits, residency requirements, and the constant pressure of uncertainty. Receiving Canadian citizenship lifted a weight from her shoulders.

“Finally, I don’t have to stress about a work permit expiring or having enough points to qualify for permanent residency,” she says. “Having Canadian citizenship opens so many doors for us.”

Now, she looks ahead with excitement — not only for herself, but especially for her son and the opportunities his future may hold.

“In the end, we wanted to make sure he would have the best opportunities possible.”

Although Canada has become home, Liesl says she still carries the values and identity that shaped her in South Africa.

“Treat people the way you want to be treated,” she says. “Learn from Canadians and adapt to how things are done here, but always stay true to yourself and never forget where you came from. South Africa will always be in my blood.”

Along the way, Maritime Paper Products became an important part of that journey. Liesl describes the company as a place where she was welcomed warmly and given the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.

“Maritime Paper welcomed me with open arms,” she says. “I’ve met so many amazing people along the way — from awesome colleagues to incredible customers. I truly have the best job ever.”

As Liesl and her family continue building their future in Canada, her story serves as a reminder that citizenship is more than a destination. For many families, it represents resilience, sacrifice, gratitude, and hope for the generations that follow.

Safety week at Maritime Paper.

Safety Week was a meaningful reminder of how safety, wellness, and preparedness are deeply connected in building a strong workplace culture.

The week brought together a range of engaging and practical activities designed to strengthen awareness and encourage proactive thinking. From identifying potential hazards in our daily work environment to participating in wellness-focused initiatives, the emphasis was on looking out for both physical safety and overall well-being.

We also took an important step forward with the launch of fire awareness training, helping ensure everyone is better equipped to respond confidently in emergency situations. A spill response exercise further reinforced the value of being prepared and acting quickly and effectively when incidents occur.

To close the week, colleagues gathered informally to recognize the effort and participation that made the initiative a success. It was a positive way to reflect on shared responsibility and the importance of continuing to build a strong safety culture every day, not just during Safety Week.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and engaged throughout the week! Your commitment helps make safety a priority in everything we do.

We’ve all seen it—
A pallet arrives leaning, crushed, or completely collapsed.

It’s easy to blame handling.
But most of the time, the issue starts much earlier.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴?
• Pressure builds during transit.
• Moisture, stacking, and movement all play a role.
• And the weakest points?

The corners… and the layers in between.

Our Structural Designer, Komalpreet Kaur, sees it often—and the solution is not just one element, but a system:

Reinforce the load from both the outside and the inside.

• 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 → protect and stabilize the perimeter
• 𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 → distribute weight and support each layer
• 𝗦𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 → improve handling and overall load consistency

Together, these elements help the pallet hold its shape from start to finish.

𝗔𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿, 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗡𝗣𝗦.

But what about our own team?

We asked a simple question in a contest.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗣𝗣?

The answers weren’t complicated.
They weren’t corporate.
They were real.

Across Dartmouth, Moncton, and Newfoundland, a pattern emerged:

• Feeling respected
• Supporting their families
• Working safely and going home each day
• Learning, growing, solving problems
• And being part of a team that feels like… a team

Some said:
“Good work environment.”
“I enjoy what I do and coming into work.”
“We have great coworkers and a great atmosphere.”
“It puts a roof over our heads and we get to work with a good crew and have some laughs.”

And maybe that’s the most important part.

Because 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝘄𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲, there’s a person who:

takes pride in their work
supports the person next to them
and helps keep everything running, day after day

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

Not just a score.
But a shared experience.

..Dartmouth, our home base—but it lives in every facility.

Our mission is simple: to keep every operation aligned, working with intention, and always moving toward what the customer expects from us.

This April, with the support of Rodney Lake, NL Operations Manager, we brought that focus to Newfoundland through our Customer-Centric Board and the “Read First” campaign.

And then comes a simple question…

How important is a coffee shop gift card?
Maybe it’s just a coffee.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲, 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Because that’s when things begin to shift.

From Maintenance to Production, this month’s winners, 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲 and 𝗥𝗼𝗯 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗴𝗲𝗿, Flexo Operator, are part of this process—seeing how NPS feedback turns into real, measurable improvements.

Monique, a former MPP employee, passed away in 2014. She loved her job and cared deeply about the environment. In 2010, she started our Earth Day clean-up tradition—and we proudly carry it forward in her memory.

Today, that spirit continues to shape who we are.

At Maritime Paper, we believe in being beautiful inside and out—not only in how we care for our surroundings, but in how we operate as a company. Through ongoing investments, improved processes, and a strong focus on sustainability, we’re working to build a cleaner, more responsible future from the inside out.

We’re pleased to welcome Andresa Simione Torres, our new 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿, to the Maritime Paper team.

We sat down with Andresa to learn more about her journey and first impressions:

𝗤: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿?
A: I’m really impressed with the reception. Managers and employees have been very attentive and kind—it made a big difference in my first days. I’ve been learning a lot already, and I’m excited to keep growing.

𝗤: 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱?
A: I worked for over 8 years in finance in Brazil. In 2019, I moved to Canada, where I learned English and completed my Business Administration diploma at Mount Saint Vincent University.

𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗣𝗣?
A: My first job in Canada was with a long-term care facility, where I worked as a wait staff member for more than 5 years. The company supported me through my permanent residency process, and I learned a great deal from my managers and coworkers.

𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼?
A: It’s a meaningful step for me—returning to my field while starting a new professional chapter here in Canada and at Maritime Paper. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn, contributing to the team, and growing professionally in a supportive environment.
