Closing the gap between what graduates learn and what employers need takes closer ties between education and industry.

Dr. Harvey P. Weingarten, former President of the University of Calgary and of HEQCO, and a leading voice on workforce readiness and the future of higher education, has been appointed Director of IBU’s Future Talent Institute to lead that work.

He will guide the Future Talent Research Institute’s labour market research and industry engagement, and the Future Talent Academy’s industry-driven training and upskilling.

Listening, Learning, and Acting Together: IBU Marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, IBU held a day of learning and listening; we are grateful to Elders and Survivors David Decontie, and to Shirley Horn, whose new children's book our President & Vice Chancellor read aloud.

We welcome a new partnership with Staff Shop, an Indigenous-owned staffing and HR consulting firm. We are grateful to Jennifer Ménard-Shand for sharing her story with our community and for joining us to sign the MOU marking this new partnership.

And finally, we also celebrate action: our students are working with Indigenous communities in Colombia and Northern Ontario on capstone projects guided by Dr. Sheila Gruner and ITPT, focused on Indigenous and Afro-descendant economic sovereignty in energy, agriculture, mining, digital infrastructure and more.

On September 24, IBU students toured MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc. for the second time in our partnership, getting a firsthand look at the technology behind Canada's aerospace sector and speaking directly with industry professionals about career pathways and the skills in demand.
