The Canadian Centre for Theatre Creation The CCTC's offices are housed on the main campus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The Canadian Centre for Theatre Creation (CCTC) is a University of Alberta-based research centre dedicated to the creation and production of new work for the Canadian stage, to the study of theatre creation, and to the development of resources for Canadian theatre creators and researchers. The Centre's mandate is national in scope and features three principal underpinnings:

* To embrace the s

pectrum of approaches to developing work for the stage, from playwright-centred to collaborative, devised and inter-disciplinary modes of creation.
* To support the development of work that contributes to a more accurate reflection of Canada's cultural diversity.
* To promote and disseminate research and scholarship that enhances the understanding and facilitates the process of theatre creation, and that increases public awareness of new Canadian work for the stage. An official UofA Research Centre working in close partnership with the University's Department of Drama, the Centre relies largely on external funding to support its programming activities.

As we prepare for playwright Emil Sher to visit us on Thursday afternoon we learnt that outside of Toronto (where Emil currently resides) Edmonton is Emils largest producer! Exciting News Everyone!
It's For Sher: A CCTC Lunchbox Chat in March

The CCTC Lunchbox Chat Series is being revived this spring, a happy return for which no small thanks is due to Edmonton's Cookie Theatre and The Theatre of the New Heart. The two companies are working together with playwright Emil Sher on a new play for children entitled Alia and the Book of Ashes. The play is based on the true story of a librarian in Iraq who saves thousands of books in Basra's Central Library from pending attacks by foreign military forces.

Sher will come to Edmonton for a week of readings and development in March. While here, he will also have a reading from his stage adaptation of Ian Brown's novel The Boy in the Moon. That play was commissioned jointly by the Great Canadian Theatre Company and the Belfry Theatre.

On Thursday, March 21st, Emil will step out to visit the Timms Lobby for a noon to 1:00 pm chat with Kim McCaw about himself and his work - both TYA and adult plays.
