A prehistoric cold case near Drumheller has researchers asking a jaw-dropping question: did a small raptor scavenge an Albertosaurus, or did a young member of the species turn cannibal?

New research from the U of A offers the first evidence of a raptor feeding on a tyrannosaur, revealing a more complex prehistoric food web than previously thought.

The two possible explanations for the fate of an Albertosaurus found near Drumheller are wildly divergent. But for master’s student Joshua Doyon, presenting the evidence resulted in a breakthrough publication in the Journal of Paleontology.

A University of Alberta researcher is looking at how music and songwriting can be used to help process complex feelings of grief and anxiety around climate change. For her PhD research project, Hannah Bayne teamed up with artists from across Western Canada to create a folk album called ‘Tuning In to Climate Change’. Bayne hopes her research and the music that came from it can help people process the complicated feelings that come from climate change.
