Alpha Psi Sorority

A sorority founded in Edmonton, AB on the UofA campus in 2004. We take pride in making our own bylaws and electing all of our own officials with no overhead.

Alpha Psi is a local sorority which was created to provide University of Alberta students with an alternative to established Panhellenic fraternities on campus. While all sororities on campus strive to provide an enhanced campus life, Alpha Psi provides its members with a smaller more personalized atmosphere.

“Hi I’m Ash, my pronouns are they/them and I’m an art and design major! I’m currently working towards a career in design, possibly interior design or landscape design, but I plan on seeing where university takes me.”

💎 Tau Spotlight: today’s Pledge spotlight is Karyssa! 💎

“Hiiiiiii, my name is Karyssa :0)... I am in my second year of nursing, I am really interested in specializing in forensic nursing! I was referred to Alpha Psi by a lovely friend to help me open up and be a little less shy; it has been quite beneficial to me over the past year! I am a major music enthusiast + player; I enjoy many genres/subgenres, but some of my favorites are mathrock (polyrhythms, dissonant chords, angular melodies), jazz, experimental, punk, and much more! I'm also a big fan of collecting vintage nonsense and old styled clothing... It's a pleasure to meet you! ♫”

“I was so excited when I found out Karyssa was my little. She is such a funny and caring person and she never fails to make me laugh. I'm so proud of how hard she works and I am excited to watch her grow and see all that she accomplishes. Watching Karyssa grow and open up in Alpha Psi has been such a privilege and I'm so glad I have been able to get to know her.

To Karyssa, I love you so much, and I'm so grateful to have you as my little. I'm so proud to call you my friend and sister.”

💎 Tau Spotlight: today’s Pledge spotlight is Jenn! 💎
“Hi my name is Jenn, and Im in my first year of Elementary Ed! I chose alpha psi because I was drawn to the fun inclusive environment and I felt like it would help me focus on my studies as one of the four pillars is academia! Ive lived in Edmonton my whole life but I enjoy travelling, reading and painting. I have a dog named Sam and he is 10 years old! I cant wait for future alpha psi events and becoming closer as sisters.”

💎 Tau Spotlight: today’s pledge spotlight is Julia! 💎
“Hi I’m Julia! I’m currently in my fourth year in the faculty of Native Studies. I chose Alpha Psi looking to connect and create new friendships for my final two years of university since the pandemic made it difficult to meet friends on campus. I can already say that the two months I’ve been a pledge of Alpha Psi I feel more fulfilled and happier than the last three years of university. I look forward to see what opportunities are to come through Alpha Psi and continue to make meaningful relationships and memories.”

Julia is one of the most compassionate and gentle people I’ve had the joy of getting to know. It’s been such a pleasure watching her grow within her Pledge class and how much she’s already blossomed within our chapter. Not only is she beautiful on the outside but she’s also incredibly kind, so smart and so dedicated to her studies, which I endlessly admire and respect. I’m so proud to be able to call myself her Big and I can’t wait to see how she continues to grow with Alpha Psi. 💙

💎 We wanted to take a moment and wish everyone who celebrates a Happy Diwali!
“Across the world, the festival marks a celebration of different religious events, the most commonly upheld being honouring the return of the god Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana from their 14 years of exile. In certain parts of India, it also marks the beginning of a new Hindu year.”
On this auspicious day of Diwali, let us celebrate the victory of good over evil and the triumph of light over darkness. Wishing all a very Happy Diwali! 💎

🧡 Today we wanted to take some time to acknowledge that Alpha Psi is located on Treaty 6 Territory and the traditional lands of Métis and First Nations peoples.
We acknowledge that as a sorority, we stem from colonial roots but every day we are learning and working towards decolonizing Alpha Psi and our education. We wanted to take today to send our support to our Indigeneous Sisters and reflect on the rich culture and vibrant community that Indigeneous peoples have brought to Edmonton. Today is a day for us non-Indigeneous folks to amplify Indigeneous voices and learn from them. 🧡

💙Recruitment events have been going amazingly so far! New and old faces have come together to bond and have a good time.

We’ve got our second Info Night coming up this Thursday online from 5-6pm, followed by Games Night on Friday from 6-8pm in ED 213

**NOTE: the location of Games Night has changed from our previous post due to scheduling difficulties. ED 213 is the correct location.

💙 Today’s Why Psi member feature is Kalie! We asked her Why Psi? and this is what she had to say:

"I joined Alpha psi because I was looking for a supportive community. I ended up finding so much more than just that. I can genuinely say all the actives are my close friends and I couldn't have asked for a more open minded, loving, supportive, and encouraging group of people. Alpha Psi is a safe space where I can be who I am with no filters or caveats."

💙 For today’s Why Psi member feature, we asked Kalyna to share her experience as a member of Alpha Psi:

"Alpha Psi has given me so much, but first and foremost it has given me the best group of friends that I get the privilege to call my Sisters. The acceptance I felt when I first joined was unlike anything I had felt before and I am so grateful for that. Since joining my first year, I feel like I’ve grown so much as an individual through countless leadership opportunities, philanthropy work in our local community as well as academic support and encouragement. I’m so excited for this recruitment season and to see what this year will bring!"
