Calling all international and inbound exchange students: You've come to Canada, so now it's time to learn about a Canadian tradition: Skating!!!

Join us to learn how to ice skate with MacEwan Griffins athletes! If you've never ice skated before, this is a no-judgment, relaxed atmosphere. And if you already know how to skate: come anyway!

In the past, this event has been very popular with lots of good feedback. It's a ton of fun! ⭐ Registration is required, so make sure to click the link to get your spot: https://ca.cglink.me/24z/r376963 ⭐

Snacks will be provided AND students who come will receive a free Griffins T-shirt! (We are also working on some other fun prizes, so stay tuned.)

Show up at 4:00 p.m. to get fitted for skates

Please note: It is very important that we have accurate numbers of skaters for this event. The Griffins athletes are letting us use some of their practice time to teach you! Please register here on StudentLife, and then you must come to MacEwan International (7-105) between Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:30, to pick up a physical ticket. This ticket will get you your free T-shirt and some other goodies.

September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. It is a day to learn about the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools, where Indigenous children were taken from their families and communities and forced to attend schools that sought to erase their languages, cultures and identities.

The day honours the children who never returned home, Survivors, and their families and communities. It is also an opportunity for everyone in Canada, including international students, to learn about Indigenous peoples and consider what reconciliation means today.

You may see people wearing orange shirts on September 30. Inspired by residential school Survivor Phyllis Webstad, orange has become a symbol of remembrance and the message Every Child Matters.

We encourage you to learn more by checking out The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at https://nctr.ca/ and of course, MacEwan University kihêw waciston

Global Chat is back!

Are you learning a new language or eager to share one you already know? Join Global Chat, a student-led language exchange program! It's your chance to practice languages, make friends and exchange culture with other MacEwan students in a relaxed, supportive setting.

Here’s how it works:
- You’ll be paired with one or two students based on your language preferences.
- They’ll help you practice a language you’re learning.
- You’ll help them practice a language you already know.
- You will schedule your own meetings that work with your schedules.
- You’ll get real conversation practice (not just classroom learning!)
- At the end of the term, you can earn a Student Experience Record for your involvement

Fall 2026 application deadline: September 25, 2026

Matches depend on who applies, so listing more than one language increases your chances.

This is a fun and flexible way to improve your language skills while making meaningful connections. Don’t miss out!
