We are delighted to announce that Rev. Tyson Howells will be joining the team at Vanguard College on May 1, 2026, as the full-time Global Pastoral Ministry Program Director. Tyson brings 26 years of pastoral ministry experience and a deep commitment to preparing future pastors and global workers for faithful, effective ministry in today’s cultural context. BTW, If you want to be an effective pastor or global worker in our current world or cultural climate Vanguard is the place for you.
For the past 9+ years, Tyson has served as Lead Pastor of Beacon Church here in Edmonton. Prior to that, he ministered as a youth pastor at Hope City and Calvary Temple in Winnipeg. Tyson is no stranger to Vanguard, having previously served here for 7 years in a variety of roles. He holds a Master’s degree from ACTS Seminary at Trinity Western University.
In a world marked by constant change, the Church needs pastors-leaders who can faithfully interpret the times while remaining deeply rooted in Scripture, theology, and lived ministry experience. Tyson brings a pastor’s heart, thoughtful leadership, and a genuine passion for coming alongside students—helping form and launch them into Spirit empowered, sustainable, Christ-centred ministry.
We are grateful for God’s provision in bringing Tyson to this role and look forward to the gifts he will bring to our community. Please join us in welcoming Tyson back to Vanguard College.
Beginning in January 2026, Tyson will serve half-time as Interim Campus Life Team Lead, supporting students and staff during the winter semester.
