With Convocation just around the corner, we are continuing to highlight our incredible class of 2026 graduates as they reflect on their time at the U of A and look toward the future.

Kyle Edwards (pictured), dental hygiene class of ’26, is sticking close to home in Sherwood Park to gain valuable private practice experience; but, he already has his sights set on returning to campus in the future to inspire the next generation as an instructor.

A major highlight of Kyle's clinical journey was the positive energy brought by faculty. Seeing Prof. Suleymanoglu in the clinic every couple of days was an instant day-brightener. "No matter how bad a day I was having," Kyle shares, "it instantly got better when she brought her cheery and bright smile to the clinic." Kyle credits the incredible U of A community that made him realize that is why he chose dental hygiene, "The support system in place allowed me to be comfortable with who I am and express myself how I feel."

Congratulations, Kyle! We are so proud of you, and we can't wait to see you back in our clinics as an instructor one day.

As Convocation fast approaches, we caught up with this year’s grads to look back on their time with us and hear about their hopes and plans for the future.

First up is Yasir, dentistry class of ’26, who is heading into private practice in Calgary after graduation. Reflecting on his journey through the dentistry program, Yasir says he will deeply miss his professors, instructors, the supportive learning environment, and the friends he made along the way. In fact, the lifelong friendships he forged are what he cherishes most from his time at the U of A.

Before heading south, he leaves his patients at the Oral Health Clinic with this essential pro-tip: "Your mouth is the gateway to your overall health—take care of it."

Congratulations, Yasir! We know you’ll do incredible things in Calgary.

On May 28, our graduate students had an incredible day of innovation, academic dialogue, and sharing ideas at our annual Research Day. Congratulations to all of the participants including the students who conveyed the potential impact of their research in just 180 seconds as part of the fast-paced three minute thesis portion. Thank you to our sponsors Alberta Dental Association and CDSPI for their financial support.

Help students get their clinical experiences. We are looking for registered dental hygienists to instruct in our clinics, either one day a week or two half-days a week. Placements are at our Oral Health Clinic, Radius Community Health and Healing Dental Clinic, Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Dental Clinic, and in long-term care facilities.
