NAIT International & Intercultural Community Centre

NAIT International & Intercultural Community Centre The official page of NAIT International & Intercultural Community Centre (IICC), Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

The NAIT International & Intercultural Community Centre (IICC) serves a large and growing population of over 3,500 international and newcomer students from over 130 countries, helping them adapt to NAIT, Edmonton, and Canadian culture. It is a safe, community-oriented space on campus. We do everything possible to grant our international and newcomer students the “Canadian experience”: from hosting

cultural events and informational workshops, to familiarizing students with uniquely Canadian activities, to helping students find employment. Besides acting as a ‘home’ for international and newcomer students on campus, the International & Intercultural Community Centre undertakes to promote diversity, multiculturalism, and internationalization across NAIT’s campus. The IICC is quickly becoming recognized as a focal point for international education of all kinds at NAIT. This page is an extension of the IICC. Feel free to ask questions and interact with staff here on Facebook as you would in the IICC. (NOTE: questions about admission to NAIT should be directed to [email protected], or the askNAIT page here on NAIT website www.nait.ca).

We are saying bye, bye, bye to Co-Op Work Permits! 👋 As of April 1, 2026, study permit holders no longer need a separate a Co-Op Work Permit to participate in their program's work integrated learning (WIL). HOWEVER, you still must meet all of IRCC's eligibility criteria to participate:

📄 Have a letter from NAIT confirming that WIL is a requirement of your program
✅ Have a condition on your study permit authorizing you to work on campus
📚 Be a full-time student
🌓 WIL cannot make up more than 50% of your study program

❓ Not sure if your program has work integrated learning? Visit nait.ca/wil to confirm!

🚨 STOP believing this rumor 🚨

“International students can work full-time in their last semester.”

❌ FALSE.

Your final semester is still an academic term, NOT a scheduled break.

Whether your final semester is in the Spring, Fall, or Winter term, you must still follow the 24-hour/week off-campus work limit.

⚠️ Working more hours than authorized can affect:

• your study permit compliance

• PGWP eligibility

• future immigration applications

Before accepting full-time work, check the IRCC rules carefully or speak with the international student specialists
