MacEwan University kihêw waciston kihew waciston Indigenous Centre kihêw waciston, which means “eagle’s nest” in Cree, is a home away from home for MacEwan University's Indigenous students.

Here you can gather, work and grow in a community that honours the distinctive knowledge of Indigenous peoples and supports you on your post-secondary journey. As MacEwan University’s Indigenous Centre, we offer personal, academic, financial and cultural support. While many of our services are directed at Indigenous students, kihêw waciston's doors are open to everyone in the MacEwan community.

MacEwan University’s Indigegogy Minor—the first of its kind in Canada—centres Indigenous knowledge, culture and community. Built with Indigenous scholars and Knowledge Keepers, this program weaves First Nations, Métis and Inuit worldviews into courses on identity, land based learning, governance, treaties, sustainability and Indigenous research.

Special congratulations going out to our Cross Appointment Etienna! So well deserved.

Follow along as we share the stories of this year’s Annual Esquao Award recipients—Indigenous women leading change and uplifting their communities.

Etienna Moostoos-Lafferty - Education

Etienna walks the talk with integrity as an Indigenous educator who models how to integrate the love, humility, values, knowledge, practices, relationships, and beingness of miyo pimâtisôwin (good life living). She has experience in both First Nations community schools and in provincial schools. Etienna has worked provincially as an Indigenous Education consultant, coach, and independent contractor; and in her current role of assistant professor in the Department of Human Services and Early Learning at MacEwan University leads the Indigenous Research Group. Completing her Master in Education at the University of Alberta with a 4.0 GPA, her thesis topic was “Pihtikwe: Exploring Withness in Teacher Preparedness and Professional Development”. Etienna is now pursuing her PhD in Education, and continues to inspire educators who want to be better in their work with students and in their peer relationships.

We’re looking for volunteers to help bring Revitalization on the Runway to life on June 5! 💫
Open to MacEwan students, staff, faculty, and alum — this is a great opportunity to support the event behind the scenes and be part of an exciting runway experience.

Here’s where we need support:
🎭 Backstage Team
• Monitor backstage entry points and manage access
• Backstage floater assisting with team needs
• Model Coordinator to help line models up in order
🎟️ Front of House Team
• Registration table support
• Assisting with guest seating (VIP, invited guests, GA, standing room)
• General event set up
💡 Lights Team
• Operate spotlights during the show
Most volunteer support will be needed during set up and throughout the event. Set up includes lighting, signage, the MacEwan backdrop, and preparing the registration area.

⏰ Volunteer time commitments will vary depending on the role. Please email for more information about schedules, responsibilities, and availability.
