NBCC’s Payroll Specialist: Payroll Fundamentals I microcredential helps you build essential payroll skills, like calculating earnings, benefits, statutory deductions and net pay for regular and non-regular employees, processing termination payments, completing Records of Employment (ROEs), and communicating payroll details effectively to stakeholders.

Every community has NBCC alumni who make it stronger. This year, we celebrated four of them.

NBCC recently recognized Paddy Quinn, Scott Babineau, Emily Ross and Randy Hansen as the 2026 Alumni Recognition Awards recipients, celebrating their leadership, dedication, and service to communities across New Brunswick and beyond, each making a difference in their own unique way.

Paddy brings people together and helps strengthen his home community. Scott volunteers with the Christmas Food Box Program, helping families, and inspiring a community of giving back. Emily advocates inclusion and continues a family legacy of volunteer firefighting. And Randy set out to help one person, and went on to help thousands through a career in public safety.

Together, their stories reflect the many ways NBCC graduates help shape our province, strengthen communities, and transform lives, while inspiring future generations of learners along the way.

Bakers of all levels can roll up their sleeves, build on their baking industry skills, and get hands-on with the fundamentals of baking in NBCC’s Baking & Pastry Arts: Baking Principles microcredential.

As a student, you can go beyond perfecting baking skills to really standing out in the job market. In 45 hours, you’ll learn about ingredients, master culinary math for standardized recipes, and develop techniques to bake delicious breads, cakes, pies, and ✨dough✨ much more. “If I can get through my career and make a difference in just one person’s life, then my career is worth it.”

That was Randy Hansen’s goal when he began his career in public safety more than 35 years ago. He set out to make a difference in one life. Since then, he’s helped thousands through his dedication to protecting people, supporting families through difficult moments, and helping build safer communities across New Brunswick. Among his many contributions, Randy led the frontline patrol operations and Northumberland County’s regional 911 Public Safety Answering Point, helping strengthen emergency response across police, fire, and ambulance services.

NBCC is proud to recognize Randy as one of four 2026 NBCC Alumni Recognition Award recipients and this year’s Friend of New Brunswick Award recipient for his commitment to transforming lives and communities.

“People say they would like to meet their hero, but I raised mine” - Paula Ross, Emily’s mother.

Emily Ross, a multi-NBCC graduate, feels there’s always something new to learn, and another way to use that knowledge to help others.

Her lifelong love of learning has helped her build connections from an early age, when she first began learning American Sign Language to communicate with a Deaf classmate. Now a third-generation volunteer firefighter and Executive Assistant at Community Living Centre, Emily continues to grow her skills and find new ways to help others feel included and supported.

NBCC is proud to recognize Emily as one of four 2026 NBCC Alumni Recognition Award recipients for her commitment to lifelong learning, inclusion, and community service.
