Great Books at St. Thomas University

Great Books at St. Thomas University Great Books is an interdisciplinary learning experience unlike any other... We read the work of David Adams Richards alongside the philosophy of St. M.

In Great Books we pursue answers to some of the perennial questions of human existence. Courses are team-taught by two professors and focused on an interdisciplinary study of classic works of philosophy, literature, and political theory. Thomas Aquinas. We use Francis Bacon to help us better understand Mary Shelley. We study the poetry of Plato and the political philosophy of William Shakespeare.

Great Books students encounter a diversity of voices addressing some of the most persistent, compelling, and troubling questions of human life. By bringing thinkers like Aeschylus, John Milton, Hannah Arendt, J. Coetzee, and Francis Fukuyama into conversation with each other we believe we acquire a more comprehensive understanding of human communities, human problems, and human aspirations.
