Thorneloe University We offer courses and programs in our School of Theology. We also house the Ernie Checkeris theatre, often used by many community groups.

Thorneloe University, located on Laurentian University's campus, is a University Residence, home of the Ernie Checkeris theatre, and a School of Theology associated with the Anglican Church of Canada. We operate a student residence with 58 single rooms and are home to St Mark's Chapel, an architectural prize-winning structure and the only free-standing chapel on the Laurentian campus.

We are excited to formally announce Matthew Mendoza, our new Dean of Residence and community partner liaison at Thorneloe University. Matthew was previously a resident at the Thorneloe University Residence, and since finishing his studies at Laurentian University has begun a teaching position at the highschool level. Matthew stated that he was interested in the role of Dean because: "[he] was welcomed with open arms, and [he's] been incredibly grateful to become part of such a close-knit community". In this role, Matthew will be able to continue to foster, and strengthen the Thorneloe University Residence. In regards to the upcoming year Matthew said: "I know I have some big shoes to fill, but I’m excited for the opportunity and really look forward to working with everyone this year!”.

Welcome to the team, Matthew!

Another National Day for Truth and Reconciliation has come an gone but the work of reconciliation is ongoing. As part of this ongoing work consistent with TRC call to action #60, Thorneloe University will be hosting a monthly Learning Circle Book Study engaging with the new book by Indigenous activist, scholar, author and wisdom keeper Rev. Dr. Randy Woodley.

From October to June we will gather monthly with in-person (The Night Owl -158 Elgin St.) and online (via Google Meet) gathering opportunities available to discuss and explore the ways in which Western Christianity has wrecked the message of Jesus and all the ways we might yet find a deeper spirituality of healing.

"Picture communities where creation is family, not commodity. Where healing happens through relationship, not transaction. Where Creator speaks through many voices and welcomes all who walk in love. This is the Jesus Way as it was meant to be--not a system of control but a path to wholeness." (from book sleeve)

All are welcome to join the learning circle via the Google Classroom for shared learning and engagement. This will be a "pay what you can" initiative with 100% of donations received going to the Turtle Island Guardian Alliance (www.ti-ga.ca).
