We have exciting news! We will be selling Women In Stem tote bags featuring influential women in STEM that include Rosalind Franklin, Jane Goodall, Katherine Johnson and Sophia Louisa Jex Blake.
Rosalind Franklin is known for making a significant contribution to the discovery of the DNA double helix. Jane Goodall, an English primatologist and anthropologist was the first person to discover the close resemblance of behavior of chimpanzees and humans through their interactions with using different tools. This ultimately shaped our understanding of what it is to be human. Katherine Johnson was an American mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. Crewed spaceflight. And lastly, Sophia Louisa Jex Blake was an English physician, teacher and feminsit. She led the campaign to secure women access to a University education when she and 6 other women collectively known as the Edinburgh Seven began studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1869.
The tote bags are $10 and will be available in a blush pink and royal blue. Half the proceeds from our sales will go to the Red Dot Project, an organization based in Toronto, Ontario that strives to provide people who are experiencing homelessness in Toronto the opportunity to manage their period in a safe and hygienic way.
We will be in the UC courtyard on Monday March 14th and Tuesday March 15th from 9-5 pm selling the tote bags so come out and grab one! We will be accepting e-transfer and cash as payments.
