The Psychology Department at the University of Guelph is in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. The Department offers undergraduate honours programs leading to a B.A. graduate programs provide specializations in Applied Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology: Applied Developmental Emphasis, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and Neuroscience and Applied Cognitive Science. All programs foster an appreciation of psychology as a science and the practice of psychology in accordance with the highest professional standards.

From healthy and sustainable eating to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, the latest episodes of explore research tackling some of today’s most important challenges.

In Episode 5, Dr. Jess Haines answers 15 questions in 15 minutes about her research on promoting healthy and sustainable eating among children and families, including community and family-based approaches that support healthy habits from an early age.

In Episode 6, Dr. Ali Dehghantanha shares insights from his research on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, and discusses how the growing use of digital technologies on farms is creating both new opportunities and new security challenges for the future of agriculture.

Emma Truffyn, a PhD candidate in the University of Guelph’s Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (CCAP) program also works under the supervision of Dr. C. Meghan McMurtry in the Pediatric Pain, Health, and Communication Lab.

In the lab, Truffyn explores how adolescents and their caregivers can manage needle fear, especially when young people may ask themselves, “Am I too old to be scared?”

With Flu vaccination season approaching, Emma wanted to share her resources for those who might want to learn more about needle fear for themselves or for people they know.
