Saint Mary's University’s Sobey School of Business continues to advance high-impact, policy-relevant research: Dr. Mohammad Rahaman, Canada Research Chair in International Finance and Competitiveness, has been awarded a prestigious Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada Insight Grant valued at $219,000 over three years (2026–2029).
The funded project, “Banking on Intelligence: The Role of Private Credit Markets in Advancing AI Investment, Innovation, and Productivity,” addresses one of Canada’s most pressing economic challenges: lagging business-sector productivity relative to other advanced economies.

This week the world is mourning the loss of Dolly Parton. As we all review her accomplishments, it's not (just) her music that is in focus: it is her $650M + business and how she ran it, with "kindness and firmness." She guarded her publishing rights and was intentional in how she approached her life and dealings, and at the same time gave generously to people in need and founded a literacy charity. She lifted up other women and showed that you don't need a business suit -- you can let your unique self shine and be very successful.

As a PRME champion school, and as we build up to our Women in Business event in October, it seems like we couldn't point to a better role model for responsible business than Dolly Parton.

This week the world lost a universally beloved musical icon. Dolly Parton was more than a musician, however. She was an economic force, and a magnificent example of responsible business leadership. With $1.8B estimated direct economic impact, Dolly still found space and resources to found a charity (The Imagination Library), support upcoming leaders, and even offer direct cash support to people in crisis, as during Hurricane Helene and wildfires.

As a PRME champion school weaving responsible business principles throughout our programs, it felt important to acknowledge her passing. RIP, Dolly. Thank you for demonstrating business for good with kindness and grace.

Earlier this week, the world lost the iconic Dolly Parton. Not only was Dolly a huge talent, she was also one of the best examples of responsible business leadership. As we weave principles of responsibility, ethics and sustainability throughout our programs, it feels important to honour Dolly. Rest in peace and power.

First came “9 to 5.” Then came the business empire, rooted in the place Dolly Parton called home.
