History & Purpose
Founded in 18th-century England and established in North America in 1819, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is one of the oldest fraternal organizations in the world. Originally formed during a time when government social safety nets did not exist, the order was created by working-class citizens who pooled resources to support members in times of illness, hardship, or bereavement.

Core Motto & Symbolism

The group operates under the fundamental command to "visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead, and educate the orphan."

Three-Link Chain: The primary emblem of the IOOF consists of three interlocking chain links representing Friendship, Love, and Truth—the core virtues members strive to uphold.

Sashes & Regalia: Members wear ceremonial sashes and collars displaying stars and red velvet trim during lodge meetings, reflecting rank, office, and tradition.

The Sovereign, Grand Lodge (an international organization dedicated to Benevolence and charity) recently appointed Jimmie LeFresne of Liberty Lodge 120 to the Hunger, Disaster and Relief committee of the
Sovereign Grand Lodge. While in this volunteer position, Jimmie will be working with four other individuals from this world wide organization. in helping relieve distress through financial contributions to organizations and lodges working in countries where assistance is needed. He will be travelling to Texas to attend the annual meetings of the Sovereign Grand Lodge accompanied by Dan Ferguson Pass Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Atlantic, Canada and current Grand Encampment representative. Patty Heighton Past international President of the Association of Rebekah Assemblies and Joan Heighton Passed President of the Rebekah Assembly of Atlantic Canada.

For the second consecutive year, Atlantic Lodge No. 107 proudly participated in BridgeWalk 2026 here in Halifax.

We were honored to be joined by officers of the Grand Lodge and members from other lodges across the Atlantic Provinces. Together, we welcomed participants by offering cold soft drinks, bottled water, and candies to everyone passing by—a small act of kindness that reflects the Odd Fellows’ enduring principles of Friendship, Love, and Truth.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event a success. It was a wonderful opportunity to serve our community, strengthen the bonds of fellowship, and proudly represent the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

This summer, the members and families of Atlantic Lodge No. 107, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, came together to celebrate a truly special occasion—our 132nd Charter Anniversary and 3rd Annual Family Day.

Our Family Day was a wonderful reminder that the strength of the Odd Fellows extends beyond our lodge meetings. It is found in the friendships we build, the families who support us, the laughter we share, and the lasting memories we create together. These moments strengthen the bonds that unite us and inspire us to continue serving our communities with kindness and integrity.

As we reflect on our rich history, we also look ahead with optimism and renewed purpose. Together, we remain committed to preserving the traditions of our Order while welcoming new generations who will carry its values forward.

To everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone, thank you for making the day so memorable. Your presence and fellowship are what make Atlantic Lodge No. 107 a place we are all proud to call home.

Our Annual Family Day is just a few days away! We warmly invite all members, along with your families and friends, to join us for this special event.

We’ll begin the day with a community litter cleanup, followed by a time of fellowship, fun, and refreshments. It’s a wonderful opportunity to serve our community, strengthen our bonds, and enjoy quality time together. You’re welcome to bring a dish or snack to share with everyone.
