On today, our thoughts are with those who’ve lost their lives or suffered a work-related injury or illness. Take a moment at 11 a.m. to honour these workers and commit to preventing further workplace tragedies.

Today is Earth Day, a time to spotlight the environment and ways we can protect our planet for a greener future 🌎 🌱

Did you know that climate change is recognized as the greatest threat to health in the twenty-first century?

When we think about the consequences of climate change, we tend to focus on water scarcity and droughts, forest fires, rising sea levels, floods, melting of the polar ice caps, catastrophic storms and declining biodiversity.

Having more frequent and intense climate events has consequences for our health, too, and can mean an uptick in chronic diseases, the emergence and spread of infectious diseases, and an increase in related health emergencies and deaths. Climate-related health risks are disproportionately felt by the world’s most vulnerable populations, including people living in poverty, racialized people, Indigenous peoples, elderly, children and women.

We all have a role to play in making greener, more sustainable choices that will help keep our planet, and our communities, healthy.
