Sustainable Ocean is an annual conference led by the Master of Marine Management students at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The conference explores multi-disciplinary approaches for creating healthy oceans and a sustainable future. Sustainable Ocean is a conference led by the Master of Marine Management students of the Marine Affairs Program (MAP) at Dalhousie University. It is the only student-run oceans conference in Atlantic Canada and has been running continually for the past five years. The conference is supported

by the Sobey Fund for Oceans. The Fund is a unique partnership between MAP, Dalhousie University and WWF-Canada. The goal of the Sobey Fund for Oceans is to inspire inventive multi-disciplinary approaches for creating healthy oceans and sustainable economies through student-led conferences, scholarships and student work placements. We are excited to announce the Master of Marine Affairs and Master of Resource Management Student Societies are collaborating in hosting a super fun trivia night at the Grawood! 🪸🐠🌲🌍🌱
📍Where? It is going to be held on-campus at the Grawood, located in the Dalhousie Student Union Building
⏰ When? Thursday, March 20th from 7-9PM

This is a FREE event, meaning there is no fee at the door or to participate in trivia!! Even better, we will be offering the chance to win PRIZES! So come prepared to test your marine affairs and resource management knowledge for your chance to win!!

As part of the Sustainable Ocean Conference 2024, our organizing committee looked to raise money through fundraising events to support committee organizations. We are excited to announce that we have raised $860 this year to donate toward the Canadian Maritime Heritage Foundation and support the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic’s Boat School and boat building initiatives. Their work promotes education, environmental stewardship, and community engagement through a three day workshop on traditional boat building that spurs hands-on and community-based learning.

We’re pleased to announce that our last (but certainly not least!) panel speaker for Sustainable Ocean Conference 2024: Tides of Tomorrow will be Leah McConney! Leah is an Oceans Biologist in the Marine Planning and Conservation Program at Fisheries and Oceans Canada in the Maritimes Region. She is passionate about managing and creating marine conservation areas. 💙

We are very excited to have her speak at our conference on our panel - we’re now 6 days away! 🌊

We’re pleased to announce that our second panel speaker for Sustainable Ocean Conference 2024: Tides of Tomorrow will be Dr. Rachael Cadman! Dr. Rachael is a social scientist and an Assistant Professor in the Marine Affairs program, where her research focuses on justice in marine management. 💙

We’re pleased to announce that the first panel speaker for Sustainable Ocean Conference 2024: Tides of Tomorrow will be Ken Paul! Ken is a member of the Wolastoqey First Nation at Neqotkuk located at Tobique, New Brunswick and is currently the Lead Fisheries Negotiator & Research Coordinator for the Wolastoqey Nation of New Brunswick. 💙

We are very excited to have him speak at our conference on our panel - only 20 days to go! 🌊
