History

The public administration tradition at Dalhousie goes back to 1936, when it became the first university in Canada to offer classes in public policy and public management. Over the subsequent three decades, the demand for a graduate degree in public administration grew steadily. As a result, in 1968, Dalhousie launched the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, later establishing t

he School of Public Administration in 1975. Connecting Students to Government

Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, a provincial capital and the Atlantic hub of regional Federal Government departments, the School has strong relationships with all levels of government: local, provincial and federal. We partner with the Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia to provide students with opportunities for field projects and internships, guest lectures, and hiring opportunities upon graduation.
