Every year, our Alumni Pins are assembled and mailed to campuses by the mailing service team at Prescott Group, an organization supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through inclusion, jobs and community. This year, we were especially proud to have alum Heather involved in the process.

“The Achieve Program helped me make new friends and learn about new experiences. I work at Prescott Mailing Services - sealing and folding stuff like Bingo cards. I like working with staff and other members. The staff and the support of my friends help me do my job. ”
-Heather McNamara (Achieve ’22)

National AccessAbility Week and Nova Scotia Access Awareness Week (AAWNS) take place from May 31 to June 6. These observances recognize and celebrate accessibility and the inclusion of all persons in Canada and here in Nova Scotia. This year’s theme is “Disability Justice: Stronger Together.”

At NSCC, we believe equity is a key driver to transforming our communities – fostering dignity and belonging so everyone can fully contribute and achieve their best.

This week, our campuses will be flying the AAWNS flag to show our commitment to elevating "First Voice" (lived experience) in creating a more inclusive society.

Pride Month is here – a time to honour the courage, joy and resilience of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. It’s also a reminder that allyship is a choice we make every day. At NSCC, we come together for justice, equity and belonging for all. This month and always, we show up for each other. 🏳️‍🌈

Students in our Graphic and Print Production program recently completed a full rebrand for Metro Community Housing Association (soon to be Mosaic Community Homes Association). From banners to brochures, students transformed digital designs into real‑world products - free of charge - to support Mosaic’s mission. This project also marked the program’s 25th service-learning partnership over the past decade. 👏💙 Read the full story: https://www.nscc.ca/about/news/stories/2026/gapp-service-learning-project-milestone.asp

What if communities could see wildfire risk clearly before it happens?

FireGuardian is a Nova Scotia–made tool doing just that. Developed through collaboration with Stevens Solutions & Design Inc. – 3D Wave Design (Barry Stevens), Nova Scotia Community College - NSCC researchers and students, it helps predict how fires spread and supports faster, more informed decisions when it matters most.

The story behind it is just as powerful as the technology.

With NSCC geomatics research support, FireGuardian uses 3D modelling and Indigenous knowledge to help communities predict wildfire risk and act faster.
