Indigenous and Pride flags will be taking turns flying over University Hall this month as groups representing diverse Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities mark June as both National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month.

June is National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month, and campus groups representing diverse Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities have together made a plan that ensures both are appropriately represented.

We’re sorry to say goodbye to Dean Pamela Swett, who has been dean since 2019. She’s been a great champion for student success, research excellence and creative cross-disciplinary partnerships. We wish her all the best in her new position at the University of Rhode Island!

The provost is initiating the process to appoint and interim dean as Swett goes to lead URI's College of Arts and Sciences.

On Thursday, McMaster's francophone community hosted an inaugural community event welcoming faculty, staff and students to help lay the groundwork for French@McMaster community building. The project is supported by faculty and staff from within the Faculty of Humanities, Department of French, and by the MacPherson Institute. Future events are currently being planned for September and beyond!

Jean Augustine is a trailblazing parliamentarian and iconic community leader who shaped multiculturalism in Canada and paved the way for generations of future leaders from diverse backgrounds. Augustine will be receiving an honorary degree during the Faculty of Humanities and the Arts and Science Program convocation!

Mary Heersink, Jean Augustine, Valerie Davidson, Arthur Fogel, Paul Hoffman, Adam Felesky and Mary Lou Maher are all being recognized.

June 23, 2025, marked the 40th anniversary of the Air India Flight 182 bombing. Although this event has been described as the largest mass murder in Canadian history, the tragedy and its aftermath remain little known and seldom remembered in our national consciousness.

As this anniversary year draws to a close, we invite you to join us for Flight 182 @ 40: Remembering the 1985 Bombing in Film. Featuring screenings of Calorie (2025) by Eisha Marjara and Flight 182 (2025) by Rippin Sindher, this event will bring together film, reflection, and conversation to honour the victims of the tragedy and explore its ongoing impact.

Nnamdi Nnake is on a side quest from his study of telegraphy in Nigeria to look at the contributions of Black telegraphists in Canada, including former Lieutenant Governor Lincoln Alexander.

Nnamdi Nnake received the Black and African Canadian Scientific and Technological Innovations (BACSTI) Fellowship.
