The MCM program is Canada’s leading master’s degree for creative professionals, executives, entrepreneurs and researchers in the many fields related to communications management including marketing, fundraising, digital and social media, public affairs, investor relations, and others. The program has been designed for working professionals who have active professional and personal lives. The MCM f

aculty and administrators understand your many commitments and are flexible to enable you to work, live and study in harmony. The curriculum provides students with leading-edge education in communications theory and practice based on 15 years of development.The MCM curriculum is founded in exhaustive research, including a thorough literature review of professional communication and communications management scholarship, interviews with top communications managers worldwide, a national survey, and focus groups of communication practitioners. The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) allows MCM students and alumni to submit capstone or major research projects in lieu of a work sample for the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) designation. Students attend three six-day on-campus residencies at McMaster University each year (mid-October, February, and June). Each residency period runs for six days from Saturday to Thursday with classes held between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. The MCM residencies are a special, intense time that provide students with hands-on learning experiences and the opportunity to forge in-person connections with their professors and classmates.

MCM candidate Noel Gruber is conducting research on public trust and AI disclosure, and is looking for participants to complete a short survey.

As organizations increasingly integrate AI into their operations, how they communicate that use has direct implications for credibility and legitimacy. If you have opinions on how organizations use and disclose AI, your perspective would make a valuable contribution to this research.

The survey takes approximately 12 minutes to complete and is open to participants aged 18 or older who access information from online sources and are based in Canada, the United States, or the United Kingdom. This study has received ethics clearance from the McMaster Research Ethics Board.

What a month for MCM candidate Matisse Hamel-Nelis, ADS, CPACC.

Matisse spoke at Camp Digital in Manchester and Access Given in Newcastle, celebrated her book Accessible Communications at Canva's London office, and was honoured as the Accessible Moment of the Year at the Abilities Centre Accessibility Awards. She also attended the National Accessibility Leadership Summit in Canada and learned she had been nominated for the City of Oshawa's Accessibility Improvement Award and the Diversability D-30 Disability Impact List.

The MCM community is proud to watch Matisse do this work and do it at this level. Well done.

Congratulations to Fernando Carneiro, MCM, Paola Morrone, BEng, MCM, ITIL, and Greg Iarusso, MCM, on receiving a McMaster University President's Award for Outstanding Service as part of the Operational Excellence Forum Organizing Team. On June 16, the McMaster University Master of Communications Management program and the Canadian Association of Municipal Communicators (CAMC) are hosting an online panel discussion on strategic leadership in municipal communications.

The McMaster University Master of Communications Management program is proud to certify the P-World Certified AI in Communications Boot Camp for the Public Sector, taking place September 16 and 17, 2026, in Ottawa.

This two-day event is designed specifically for communications professionals working in government departments, public agencies, municipalities, and publicly funded organizations. It is the first practical, implementation-focused training of its kind in Canada, built around one central question: how do you make AI work responsibly inside government communications?

The MCM community is well represented in the speaker lineup. Dr. Alex Sévigny, APR, FCPRS will lead the full-day hands-on workshop on Day 2, guiding participants through structured prompting, AI-ready communications workflows, governance frameworks, and practical implementation planning tailored to the public sector context. MCM alumnus Rob Trewartha, MA, MCM, Director of Strategic Communications and Initiatives at the City of Mississauga, presents on Day 1, sharing his framework for translating AI governance principles into operational practice. They are joined by communications leaders from the Parliament of Canada, the City of Toronto, Indigenous Services Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, and Seneca Polytechnic.

All attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance from the MCM Executive Education program upon completion.

On Sunday, May 24, Kevin also joins Dr. Alex Sévigny and Martin Waxman, MCM, APR for a three-hour leadership intensive covering AI integration, advanced prompting, and governance for communicators.

The McMaster University Master of Communications Management program congratulates Claire Ryan, MCM, APR, MCPRS, on receiving the 2026 CPRS Outstanding Achievement Award.

Claire is Director of Public Relations at Cooke Inc., a past National President of CPRS, and current Secretary to the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management. As CPRS President, Claire provided steady and credible leadership through a critical period of organizational transition, strengthening alignment across the federation and fostering a more collaborative and inclusive Board. Her contributions extend beyond Canada through her work with the Global Alliance, leaving the profession better positioned on an international stage.

It is a well-earned distinction and a reflection of how the MCM program provides education and training to the leaders of the highest calibre in our professional community.

Victor is Director of Corporate Affairs and Business Development at 7-Eleven Canada, and a distinguished member of the MCM community whose contributions to the public relations profession span decades. From local volunteering to serving as National President of CPRS, Victor has demonstrated an exceptional and sustained commitment to advancing the profession, mentoring emerging practitioners, and supporting professional development at every level.

The CPRS Award of Attainment recognizes outstanding achievement and service to the public relations profession, and it is a fitting recognition for someone who has given so much to it.
