🎣 Did You Know?

Today, June 18, is National Go Fishing Day!

It’s a great reminder to get outside, enjoy Ontario’s waterways, and take part in one of Canada’s most popular outdoor activities. Whether you’re casting from shore, a dock, or a boat, there are endless spots across the province to explore.

🐟 Fishing isn’t just recreation—it also connects to the skilled trades and outdoor industries, including marine and small engine repair, environmental and conservation work, construction of docks and waterfront infrastructure, and many careers that support Ontario’s natural resources sector.

⚠️ Reminder: If you’re between 18 and 65 years old, you’ll need a valid Ontario fishing licence.

So grab your gear, head outside, and celebrate the day—there’s more skill behind the scenes than you might think!

How impressive is this? 👏

Across Ontario, high school students are earning industry-recognized welding certifications right in their own schools—gaining valuable hands-on experience and skills that can lead directly to exciting careers in the skilled trades.

These opportunities not only build technical skills and confidence but also help students explore apprenticeship and career pathways before they even graduate.

The future of the skilled trades is bright, and it's inspiring to see students welding, creating, and achieving industry standards while still in high school. 🔥⚙️

As we near the end of another school year, we want to extend a huge thank you to all of our co-op employers and community partners.

Your willingness to mentor, guide, and provide meaningful workplace experiences gives students invaluable opportunities to develop skills, explore careers, and build confidence while still in high school.

Thank you for helping shape the future workforce and for investing your time, expertise, and support in the next generation. Your impact reaches far beyond the workplace and makes a lasting difference in students' lives.

Great to stop by and see Local 18 Hamilton-Niagara welcoming Grade 7 students and Grade 11/12 SHSM students to their training facility!

Students had the opportunity to explore careers in the skilled trades and apprenticeship pathways through hands-on activities, including building small scale scaffolding, constructing small-frame houses, and participating in tool demonstrations.

It's fantastic to see SHSM and UBC Local 18 partnering together to provide meaningful career exploration experiences and inspire the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
