Calling all 1980s Marauders... we've got a mystery for you to solve. 🕵️‍♀️

A Woodstock Hall alum recently uncovered a Brandon Hall hat that's been sitting in storage for more than four decades. The tag inside reads "Laura F." and we believe it may belong to a student who lived in Brandon Hall during the 1982-83 academic year.

How the hat made its way from Brandon Hall to Woodstock Hall remains a mystery, though we're guessing there may have been some residence mischief involved. 😉

Know a Laura F. who lived in residence in the early 1980s? Tag friends, share this post, or send us a DM. Let's see if the McMaster community can help bring this piece of campus history home to its owner. 🫶

When Amanda Horn '15 realized her work no longer aligned with her values, she made a bold decision: get in the water. Leaving behind a corporate marketing career, she pursued a path that united communications, sustainability, and her passion for the ocean. 🌊

Today, she is the founder of ShowerThoughts™, an innovative startup creating ocean-friendly alternatives to single-use products through seaweed-based materials. Her journey shows that exploring what doesn’t fit can be the key to finding what does.

More than 50 years after living together in Wallace House, a wing in Whidden Hall, 40 alumni reunited on August 5 to reconnect and celebrate the friendships and memories that began during their time at McMaster.

Some things may have changed since their student days - but the laughs? Not so much. ❤️

Sometimes, one person can make all the difference.

When you think about your time at McMaster, who comes to mind? Maybe it was a professor who saw your potential. A friend who helped you feel like you belonged. A coach who pushed you further. One person can change everything.

As we welcome students back to campus this fall, we're inviting our alumni and community to recognize someone who made a lasting impact on their McMaster experience. When you make a gift in their honour, we'll send them a personalized email letting them know they inspired you.

So, who made your McMaster experience special? Honour them at:

Danial Qureshi ’16, ’18 has turned a high school volunteering experience into an award-winning career in health research, driven by compassion, curiosity and a commitment to improving patient care.

"I was confronted with the reality of life. Many people are facing various health challenges as they age – they become chronically ill and a large proportion of those facing such issues develop dementia – one of the most challenging healthcare problems of our time."

While at McMaster, Danial founded the McMaster Parkinson’s Program, a student group that raised awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease and related neurological disorders. His experiences inspired a career focused on using real-world health data to improve patient outcomes. Today, as a Manager of Evidence Generation at Novartis, he helps evaluate the safety, effectiveness and impact of medical innovations in real-world settings.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to health research and society, we're proud to present Danial with the 2026 Alumni Arch Award!
