This October MacSmiths competed in the Heat Treating Society Strongbar competition. The objective was to heat treat a bar of 9254 steel to sustain the highest load under 3 point bending. Our team placed 2nd in the bend testing!

The first image is our poster showcasing the work that went into designing and performing the heat treatment. The second image shows the two bend test samples described in the poster

The MacSmiths are back in action for the 2023-2024 term!

Whether you’re new to blacksmithing or a returning member, come join us at our first forging session of the school year on Wednesday September 20th from 4-6pm in JHE 130!

The MacSmiths is a free and low-commitment opportunity to gain hands-on experience with hot-forging processes. No prior forging experience is needed, so let’s hit some hot steel. Open to materials engineering and 1st year engineering students.

**Please note**: Before attending every forging session, please fill out the safety form that is found in the linktree in our bio. The QR code to the form will also be available outside of JHE 130 to scan before entering. You will not be allowed to participate in forging until the form is filled out and confirmed with one of our execs.

Unfortunately, there will be no more forging sessions this year as constructions are commencing in the forging room. We are hoping to see you all again in the 2023 fall semester. Stay tuned for updates!
