This Past Master's jewel found its way back to Kaslo Lodge recently via a brother in Victoria.
Eugene "Gene" Joseph Leveque was Worshipful Master of Kaslo Lodge in 1948-49.
Gene Leveque was born in Winnipeg on Oct 7, 1900. His father - Eugene Camille Leveque - moved to Nakusp 1911 from St. Boniface Manitoba. (where he was born in 1878) Eugene Leveque Sr. had a barbershop and pool hall in Nakusp in the early 20th century called "The Recess". Gramps Leveque passed away in 1945 in Nakusp.
Eugene Joseph Leveque Jr. was a 43 year old CPR Agent residing in Roseberry when he was initiated into Slocan Lodge No. 29 on 21 May 1944. He was passed on 21 June 1944 and raised on 12 July 1944. He then affiliated with Kaslo Lodge No. 25 on 4 December 1945, served as master for 1948-1949, and demitted on 7 December 1954. He affiliated with Granite Lodge on 29 April 1953 from Kaslo Lodge No. 25, and was the first Worshipful Master of Granite Lodge No. 154. He then served as DDGM District 6 for 1956-1957. He died 23 May 1966 in Nelson.
Gene authored a history of the first decade of Granite Lodge.
