Researchers from the Disability Affinity Group, Dr. Jennifer Gagnon, Kathryn Douglas-Campbell, and Dr. Dana Solomon, are collecting stories about the experiences of people with disabilities and those who experience barriers to full participation at UBC.

They invite anyone who has experienced a barrier to full participation in the UBC community when working, studying, communicating with, or visiting the University of British Columbia to participate in the project. You do not have to consider yourself to be ‘Disabled’ or living with a disability to participate: Accessibility is about removing barriers to ensure everyone is included.

You can share your experiences by participating in a one-on-one interview, a small group discussion, and/or completing a questionnaire. You can participate in all of these ways, or just choose the ones that work for you.

Earlier this week, FHSD staff members and Jonathan Little’s lab team visited the Sncəwips Heritage Museum in West Kelowna. This was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to connect and experience the collections, histories, and oral stories of the syilx people .

Big thanks to everyone who attended and supported the UBCO Mini Pride Picnic yesterday. We were so happy to celebrate the joy and existence of gender and s*xual diversity this and every month of the year.

FHSD Invites you to a virtual EDI Lunch and Learn Session: Deep Dive on the Positive Space Foundations Course, A conversation with Jasmine Peone, syilx knowledge holder and educator, Jenica Frisque, Equity Education Strategist in the Equity and Inclusion Office and Natalia Peñuela Gallo, FHSD EDI Coordinator.

This session is open to FHSD students, staff and faculty members. The Positive Space is a foundation online course that provides low-barrier access for students, staff, and faculty to learn about s*x, s*xuality, and gender diversity.

Today is Moose Hide Campaign Day. The Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led grassroots movement to engage all Canadians in ending violence towards Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit People.

Moose Hide Campaign Day is a day of ceremony where all Canadians are called to join together to take a stand against violence towards women and children and to take practical steps for our collective journey of reconciliation.

All Faculty of Health and Social Development Students are Invited to Our EDI Lunch & Learn: Gender Inclusive Care; a conversation with Johannah May Black and Meaghan Duckett from SVPRO. This workshop will be a space to unlearn some of the harmful and exclusionary messaging about gender diversity that circulates in our society. Light refreshments will be provided.

A big congratulations, as well, to the first-place winner, Quinn Malone, second-place—and People’s Choice Award— winner, Alanna Shwed, and third place winner, Jenna Sim.

Quinn and Alanna will now advance to the UBCO UBC Okanagan Graduate Studies 3MT Final on April 5.
