UBC Engineering - Okanagan

UBC Engineering - Okanagan University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus
The School of Engineering offers 4 degree programs:

History
A considerable facet of the Faculty of Applied Science at The University of British Columbia, the School of Engineering (SOE) is based on 100 years of engineering teaching and research excellence on the Vancouver campus. Students
Since its start in 2005 at the Okanagan campus, the SOE has seen momentous growth in research and teaching infrastructure, as well as in its student body with abo

ut 700 undergraduates and 160 graduate students. In 2012, 107 BASc degrees were conferred here—almost 50 per cent more than in 2010. Facilities
The SOE moved into the new Engineering, Management & Education (EME) Building in 2011. With more than 14,500 square metres of space for research, labs, and classrooms, this $68-million complex houses the latest in laboratory equipment to enhance student and faculty work.

A circular economy does more than reduce waste. It changes how organizations design products, manage resources, evaluate costs, and plan for long-term value.

UBC Okanagan’s Applied Life Cycle Assessment and ESG Reporting for Circular Economy micro-credential helps professionals turn circular-economy principles into practical organizational strategies.

Learn how to map material and energy flows, evaluate lifecycle impacts and costs, and apply established methods to a case study from your own workplace.

Build the knowledge to see the full lifecycle—and identify where meaningful change can begin.

Online | 56 hours | October 6–November 28, 2026 | $2,000

What if a piece of art could help clean the air?

With wildfire smoke affecting air quality across the Okanagan this summer, a made-at-UBC innovation is offering a creative approach to cleaner indoor air.

Three handcrafted Aerosol-Removing Tapestry (ART) installations are now on display in UBC Okanagan’s EME building, bringing together art, applied science and cleaner air.

The innovative air-cleaning technology developed by Dr. Sunny Li, PhD student Jake Winkler and team uses electrostatic filters and quiet fans hidden behind each canvas to continuously remove airborne particles and bacteria.

More than 25 pieces of student artwork were submitted for the first installation, with works by Oliver Hale, Kalina Mehta and Morteza Nahvi selected for display. The frames were handcrafted by Master of Design student Asana Hues.

The artwork will rotate, creating an ongoing space to showcase creativity from across the School of Engineering community. The next call for artwork will take place in early 2027 and will be open to School of Engineering students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this creative solution to life.
