UBC Okanagan - English Program Our degrees in English involve the close study and analysis of complex texts for both undergraduate and graduate students. UBC Okanagan's B.A. research. The M.A.

in English focuses on the close study and analysis of complex texts. The program provides a historical overview of English literature and an introduction to contemporary literatures in Canada and around the world. Courses range in focus from composition to Renaissance literature; from 17th, 18th and 19th century studies to contemporary American and Canadian writing; and from Indigenous and postcolonial literatures to studies in the emerging field of digital humanities.

Our M.A. degree in English provides students with the theoretical and practical tools involved in advanced literary studies in English. Graduates of the M.A. program will be prepared for a variety of professions that value strong communication skills and a facility in writing and textual analysis—such as education, journalism, professional writing, publishing, law, consulting, or marketing—or for Ph.D. emphasizes a breadth of knowledge in the form of course work, and also encourage students to produce original, publishable research. Our mission is to train students to be successful scholars, who are capable of contributing to important literary and cultural knowledge, both within our field and within the culture at-large, and of disseminating their skills and knowledge widely.

Congratulations to Dr. Astrida Neimanis (FCCS, FASS), Michael V. Smith (FCCS), Dr. Adam Wei (FOS), Tania Willard (UBCV Arts & Helen Belkin Gallery), and Dr. Tareq Yousef (FASS) as recipients of a 2026 Peter Wall Legacy Award.

The project, ‘Untapping Watershed Relations: Water in Woodhaven Park’, will address current water stress and ecological deterioration in Woodhaven Regional Park (Kelowna, B.C.) as part of the greater Bellevue Creek watershed.

As part of the project, the team will train a cohort of interdisciplinary graduate students in arts-sciences methodologies specifically around watershed relations. A call for applications for Student Fellowships for Arts-Sciences Collaboration can be found on www.thefeeledlab.ca.

Join us for Polish Anarchafeminist and Q***r Zine Exhibition and Workshop.

📍 Sawchuk Family Theatre, COM building, UBCO

The exhibition will be accompanied by a short talk about how these zines are being researched at UBCO, and a zine-making workshop which encourages people to make their own zines, inspired by the zines on display. All supplies will be provided.

This event is organized by Soha Aftab (BA Cultural Studies and English) who received the FCCS International Undergraduate Research Award, working with Drs. Emily Murphy and Maria Alexopoulos this summer.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the ReMedia Infrastructure for Research and Creation symposium featuring ReMedia Visiting Scholar in Residence, Dr. Barbara Dynda, and Dr. George Grinnell.
 
The event sparked thoughtful conversations around feminist and q***r zines, cultural memory, archives, and the importance of preserving marginalized histories, and we learned more about the innovative research and creative work of Dr. Dynda and Dr. Grinnell, whose presentations highlighted the power of collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to scholarship and community engagement.
 
Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and contributed to such a meaningful exchange of ideas.
