The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time when the Queen's community comes together to reflect and remember the history and ongoing impacts of the residential and day school systems. There are a number of events across campus to bring the community together in support of reconciliation, including the Sacred Fire at 1 pm on Sept. 30 at Agnes Benidickson Field.

The Queen's Indigenous Medical Students Association is hosting "Reflect. Learn. Reconcile" with Lori Idlout, MP, Nunavut on Monday, Sept. 28 from 12:30 - 1:30 at 15 Arch St., Room 132A.

Running for cancer research! 🏃‍♀️

On Sunday, September 20, the Sinclair Cancer Research Institute’s (SCRI) Cancer Biology & Genetics teams came together for the annual Terry Fox Run as the SCRI Research Runners.

Fundraising included a bake sale, raising $850 thanks to students Fatin Mustafa and Larissa Olivera who coordinated the event. In total, the team raised $9,000 (to date), surpassing last year’s $7,428 to make 2026 their highest-ever fundraising total. Since 1998, the SCRI Terry Fox Run team has raised an incredible $52,610.

Dr. Sheela Abraham and Dr. Andrew Craig, cancer researchers who have received Terry Fox Foundation funding, both spoke at the event and shared their perspectives on the importance of cancer research.

Thank you to everyone who ran, baked, donated and supported the SCRI Research Runners this year!

Join us for the 2026 Health Policy Symposium and Duncan Sinclair Lecture on Friday, September 25 focused on "Aging in the community"

Our aging society increasingly—and resoundingly—wants to age in the community. Supporting older Canadians to age well at home requires a serious reconsideration of health policy focused on community and perspectives from partners like public health, municipalities, community members, and other health care professionals.

The symposium will feature engaging discussions and examples of how to support people as they 'age well at home'. Don't miss the keynote speaker, Paul McGarry who has been at the forefront of this work for decades leading the Age-Friendly Manchester Programme, and is a founding member of both the WHO Global Network and U.K. Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities.

Good news for Ontario’s future family doctors. The new Learn and Stay Grant for Medical Education helps eligible family medicine residents cover medical school tuition and other costs if they commit to practicing in the province after graduation.

At Queen’s Health Sciences, we are proud to help train future family physicians across southeastern Ontario, connecting them with the communities they may one day serve.

Apply for funding to cover the costs of your undergraduate medical school tuition, books and other direct educational expenses if you agree to work as a family doctor any where in Ontario for at least five years after completing your residency in Ontario.

Congratulations to Dr. Robert Ross who was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in recognition of his work in exercise science. Membership in the Society is one of Canada's highest honours that celebrates leading researchers, artists, and thinkers across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences.
