Some horses win medals. Others win hearts. And then there was Charisma β the remarkable little New Zealand horse who, alongside Sir Mark Todd, became one of the greatest legends in equestrian history. π³πΏβ¨
Standing just 15.3 hands high, Charisma wasn't the imposing athlete many expected to dominate international eventing. But beneath that modest frame lived extraordinary courage, determination and an almost unbelievable will to win.

Born in New Zealand in 1972, Charisma was affectionately nicknamed "Podge" because of his enormous appetite! π₯π΄
When Todd first encountered him as a youngster, he thought the horse would be too small for top-level competition.
Fate had other plans.
In 1983, Todd began riding Charisma, discovering a spirited, strong-willed little horse with exceptional talent. Their partnership would soon change eventing history forever.

After finishing second at Badminton earlier that year, the pair arrived at the Los Angeles Olympics ready to challenge the world's best.
Charisma delivered beautiful dressage, fearless cross-country jumping and a superb final showjumping performance.
Against formidable opposition, Todd and Charisma claimed individual Olympic GOLD! π₯π³πΏ
The little horse had conquered the world.
But his greatest chapter was still to come.

At 16 years old, Charisma was considered elderly for the demanding sport of three-day eventing.
Many wondered whether he could compete against younger, stronger horses.
He answered in spectacular fashion! π₯
With Todd guiding him, Charisma produced outstanding performances to secure a SECOND consecutive individual Olympic gold medal, alongside team bronze.
They became the first partnership in 56 years to successfully defend the Olympic eventing title.
Two Olympics. Two individual gold medals. One unforgettable partnership. π₯π₯

Charisma wasn't always easy. He could be stubborn, powerful and full of personality. Yet he possessed something no training programme could manufacture β tremendous heart.
Following retirement, he became a beloved equestrian celebrity, delighting admirers throughout New Zealand.
Charisma passed away in 2003, aged 30, but his extraordinary legacy lives on.
